ICON Seminar 7

Kallio-Kuninkala, Finland

Theme of the 7th Seminar: Assessment & Feedback

Last updated September 12, 2016

For the 7th seminar, ICON will return to the idyllic Kallio-Kuninkala, Finland, for a weekend that will be centered around the theme of Assessment & Feedback. This seminar will be led by Helena Gaunt from the Guildhall School and Bart van Rosmalen from the ArtEZ Conservatorium.

The seminar will be premised on a core commitment to searching for the ways in which assessment and feedback can best enable student learning, and reflect the skills and attributes that students need to acquire in order to develop successful professional careers.

An important focus will be on exploring a range of approaches to high-quality formative feedback. We will also consider the relationships and possible tensions between high-quality formative feedback and summative assessment in relation to performance. We will explore some innovative processes developing within curricula, for example using peer and self-assessment processes to enhance learning. And we will consider diverse ways in which the skills and qualities of musicians in the 21st century can be assessed.
