Teaching and Learning: Exploring the connections between teachers and learners and learners as teachers
This seminar aims to extend understanding of how musicians learn, particularly in conservatoire and specialist music education contexts. Bringing together a group of teachers to reflect on their practice, we will consider how as teachers we can facilitate the development of an intense and detailed craft alongside supporting individual artistry, creative expression and sustainable professional practice. We will look at possibilities for reflection as an integrated part of practice, giving constructive feedback using the Critical Response Process, connections between teachers as learners and learners as teachers, working in ensemble settings and at issues of empowering students to take ownership of their learning.
