The Innovative Conservatoire partnership was formed in February 2006 during the Reflective Conservatoire Conference hosted by the Guildhall School. Between February 2006 and June 2007, the group, with representatives from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London, Institute of Education, University of London, Stadia Polytechnic, Helsinki, The Royal Conservatoire, the Hague, Sibelius Academy, Helsinki, Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Malmö Academy of Music, Lund University, Malmö and the Norwegian Academy of Music, Oslo met four times to debate priorities.

Within this time, progress was made to implement a pilot international module for conservatoire teachers held in April 2007, which created a platform for collaboration and teacher development. During the pilot seminar, instrumental and vocal teachers and researchers in music and education from Conservatoires across Europe came together to reflect on their work.
