Biography

Helena Tulve (b. 1972) is an Estonian composer whose music is focused on constant change; Helenas music grows from simple primary impulses, influenced by natural patterns, organics and synchronicity. Besides composition, Helena has studied Gregorian chant and various oral musical traditions, which still remains her specialist area of research. Helena has collaborated with video artists, has composed music for film and screen and has released two CDs titled: “Sula” (“Thaw”) by Estonian Radio in 2005 and “Lijnen” by ECM in 2008. Helena has lectured in composition at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre since 2000.
