Karst de Jong

Royal Conservatoire, The Hague


Karst de Jong studied music theory and piano (classical and jazz). He held teaching positions at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague before being appointed professor of improvisation and Music Theory at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona (ESMUC). He has taught many masterclasses in institutions all over the world, on the subject of improvisation and the subject of interpretation through analysis. He regularly plays concerts with solo piano improvisations in Europe and Japan and has been a guest in various festivals like the Piano-Pic festival in the French Pyrenees 2008 and 2011, and the Vila-seca Paul Badura-Skoda festival 2011.
